Infrastructure- WW2 Pickett-Hamilton Fort-Burtonwood Airfield-Warrington.

Past Lidl and left down an access road towards a huge new housing estate, lies a little treat. The Grade II listed Pickett- Hamilton fort of around 1940.

Back when the whole area was RAF Burtonwood airfield, then a USAAF Base from 1942 , it was moved to its current location in 2019. Read the Historic England listing HERE.

I did have a vague memory from reading in the paper that it had been uncovered when the area was being redeveloped for warehousing.

And I was most certainly correct. Go HERE and you can read all about its discovery, excavation and final new home.

I enjoyed seeing it but I had to go as I had freezer stuff in the boot. Go HERE for the Wikipedia page that has a small video on the home page showing how the forts move up and down.
